By Frederick Peters,Kaduna

The parish priest of St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Kakuri,Kaduna,Very Rev’d.Fr.Eric Akawu Mallam, has lamented bad leadership as responsible for the myriad of challenges bedevilling the country.

The cleric noted with displeasure how the country has degenerated in the areas of leadership, security, peace and unity, under the government of ‘change.’

He disclosed this during the NEW YEAR Mass of the parish on Friday in Kaduna, where he however charged Nigerians not to despair or be discouraged, but have faith that God will not let Nigeria down.

According to him,” what is happening today in our society is as a result of bad leadership, when you have leaders that are self centred, leaders who are very greedy, leaders who have the spirit of sectionalism, nepotism and so on

“A leader who is very negative, very naive towards his subjects then you don’t expect progress in the society and that is what is happening today in our country Nigeria” he added

He further regretted that ” the leaders we have today, don’t care about the people; they came, they talked about Change, but the Change that we have seen today instead of being positive, it’s negative, instead of discouraging corruption, they are encouraging corruption” he stressed

He maintained that the People are looking up to the National Assembly to save the country and do the needful ” they are the people we look up to, but they are not doing their work,

” because if you look at what is happening, if it were to be elsewhere Buhari would have long been impeached, because completely we don’t have a leadership “he reiterated

He however urged government to do something to remedy the already bad situation saying” if the leaders can sit up and look back, see the past, the present and the future and say okay, today, we have decided that we want to have a change that will affect everybody and that is positive, then things will go well”

He however said “Nigerians should not lose hope, we should have hope against hope, in every situation there’s is no situation that remains, every situation comes and it goes,

” just like somebody will say tough people last, but tough times don’t last, so let Nigerians never be discouraged, God is on our side and he will never let us down” he admonished

Reacting to Bishop Kukah’s Christmas message, he said “It’s a welcome idea, he has said his mind and honestly,I concur with all that he said ” he averred
