Harmattan: Clerics Seek Donation Of Blankets, Warm Clothing For IDPs, Orphanage Homes, Others

NEWSDailyNigeria– As the dust and cold season of the harmattan is setting -in, a team of Nigerian Clerics have called for the provision of blankets and warm Clothes to the needy, especially, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as people on the street, and children located at various orphanage homes across the country.

The Clerics admonished Nigerians on the need for their donations and support as it will help to protect these vulnerable Nigerians against all forms of wind and cold and Harmattan related diseases among others.

The team maintained that like the previous year, this year’s harmattan season comes amidst the corona virus pandemic, high cost of cold related clothes , increase desertification , deforestation and insecurity challenges bedeviling peace stability in the country.

While making the appeal after embarking on visitation to some communities across the northern states of the country, with visits to some IDPs, Motherless and Destitute homes, the Team called on the wealthy, companies, government and Non-governmental organisations across the country to start assisting the poor.

Pastor Yohanna Buru, Leader of the Christian Clerics, who also led the team to some street beggars emphasised the need for Nigerians to donate cold- protective cloths so as to protect the needy from diseases and respiratory infections such as conjunctivitis, asthma, cough, catarrh, tonsillitis,

The Christian cleric said they are going to use traditional media and social media to draw the attention of every Nigerian to support the needy with cold protective clothes against this year Harmattan season

According to him, everyone has started buying cold -protective -clothes for himself and children, but very few Nigerians care about the life of children at orphanage homes, IDPs , street beggars, destitutes at various camps at this harmattan”

Similarly, Mallam Gambo Abdullahi Barnawa, a Muslim Scholar, said there are plenty of blessing attached to whoever donate cloth or blanket to IDPs, orphanage homes , destitutes, or any needy.

Adding that even the Almajiri’s on the street begging with scattered and dirty clothes need assistance to make their lives better.

Gambo says, he’s going to mobilise more Nuslims and Christians Scholar to use places of worship in order to sensitizsed the general public about the importance of donating harmattan free clothes to the IDP and various children at orphange homes

The Muslims cleric then called on Nigerians to always use their face masks and obey the covid 19 protocosl as the harmattan season is gradually setting in
