The Nigeria Union of Journalists,(NUJ) has expressed shock over the sudden death of the Chairman and Publisher of Leadership Newspapers,Mr Sam Nda- Isaiah

The Union noted that the late Icon has contributed immensely to responsible journalism towards enhancing nation building. While eulogising his frank and unapologetic disposition,also called for him to be immortalized by the government.

Through a statement signed by the Assistant National Secretary,Mr Midat Joseph,on Saturday,the NUJ expressed its condolences to the immediate family members,management and staff of Leadership Newspapers,the Journalism profession and nation at large,saying

” The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has received with rude shock, the sudden demise of the Chairman and Publisher of LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.
Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah’s saddened death marked the end of an eventful era of a Newspaperman.”

According to NUJ “This indeed, is a great loss to his family, particularly the journalism profession where Mr. Nda-Isaiah made his mark. The NUJ and the entire nation no doubt benefited immensely from his wealth of experience and commitment to national development.

” Sam Nda-Isaiah did not just build bridges among people of different ethnic, religious and political persuasions, he also encouraged unity, peace and tolerance in the country.”

Adding that ” Though a pharmacist, the deceased distinguished himself in the journalism profession where he played critical roles for freedom of expression and the press. He also encouraged responsible journalism practice aimed at promoting nation-building and propagation of truth, justice and the fight against corruption.

” While alive, Sam was one of the most strident and balanced voices of journalism in Nigeria. He was incisive, brutally frank and unapologetic in expressing opinion.

The statement further said “Mr. Nda- Isaiah will surely be remembered for his boldness, can-do spirit and innovativeness.

“We at NUJ will remember him for his dare determination to speak truth to power.

“It is our considered view that the Federal Government immortalizes late Sam Nda-Isaiah. The death of this patriot must not go unnoticed.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his Wife, Zainab, Family, Staff of Leadership Newspaper and the entire Nation. He will be greatly missed by all” NUJ added
