NEWSDAILYNIGERIA– A team of Nigerian scientists, geologists, environmentalists and volunteer climatologists have commenced a one week -awareness campaign among students on the importance of cleaning up their surroundings to avert the spread of tropical diseases and other environmental disasters which include flood, waterborne diseases, malaria fever,Cholera etc

The sensitization workshop is coming ahead of the 2021, World lnternational Clean-up Day on the 18th in the Month of September.

A science climatologist and micro-biologist, Comrade Nurudden Bello, who is the Director of African Climate Reporters said, the aim of the campaign is to raise more awareness to the general public on the harmful effects of throwing away all sort of plastic trash and other garbages into the stream ,gutters and rivers,

The Campaign which kickstarted today at the school is expected to last for one week, while drawing the attention of all students and other residents on the importance of wearing face mask and respecting social distancing to avert the spread of Covid 19

They are going to use social media to mobilized thousands of youths and Women and sensitize them through their Android phones on the importance of cleanliness of their environment

“we are going to use Facebook, Twitter,Instagram, whatsapp, Badoo and other networks ’ while releasing many Press Statement to multiple Media Organizations across the country to support in producing jingles. drama to sensitize the public about the day”

Adding also that it is aimed at educating the public on its dangers to the entire life of human beings , animals and living organism .

He said, a fresh and healthy environment is very vital for the growth and success of Wild Life fruits, vegetables, and other species in the environment.

“ The environment around us is an essential part of human survival, hence the need to protect it through cleaning and raising more awareness among youths and teenagers on their own contributions

” while assessing and promoting an environmentally friendly lifestyle in order to minimize the pollution and degradation of natural resources is the secret to make these tools readily available for future generations” he added

Stressing that, air pollution and water pollution remain one of the dangerous environmental pollutions that is capable of killing large number of human beings, animals and other living organism

He noted that ”The worldwide climate patterns have shifted as a complete and we, the people only are responsible for this as a consequence of contributing to pollution”

“This is principal because of increased industrialization, cutting down the woods, usage of fuel to operate the automobiles, planes, and machines.”

“It has led to high carbondioxide and other greenhouse gases. A rise in the temperature surely increases the likelihood of the incidence of dangerous storms and catastrophic weather patterns.”

Bello pointed that World Cleanup Day on 18 September 2021 will unite more than 20 million people in 180 countries. On that day volunteers and partners worldwide will come together again to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litters and mismanaged waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, and streets.

“ we are going to take the campaigns tomosque,churches,temples,markets,parks, Football view center and stadium while sensitizing more women organization and other youth groups across the north”

“we are equally taking the campaign to traditional title holder and to meet with Top politicians on their own contribution on the campaign”

According to him, the World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of everyday people to achieve incredible things by joining together, adding that, its beauty lies in cooperation and collaboration: building bridges between desperate communities, and including all levels of society – from citizens to businesses to government.

Similarly, Mallam Abdulhadi Mohammed, Head of Geography Department at the school of Health Science Kaduna added , that there is the need to train more students on ways to support in protecting their environment through cleaning up their surrounding on daily basis.

”They need to know that they are also stakeholders in protecting their environment, hence the need for them to equally support and mobilise other youths to join the campaign”

He said, A clean environment is essential for Healthy Living, hence the need to raise more awareness to the general public on the dangers associated with cleaning up their environment.
