.. Congratulate Isiguzo on his re-election as President

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA- State Governors, Socio-Political group and other Nigerians have commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists,( NUJ) for successfully hosting the election of National Leadership of the Union at the 7th Triennial conference in Umuahia, Abia State.

The Governors and others through several statements and congratulatory messages expressed their commendation and support for the elected National officers under the leadership of the re- elected President of the Union, Comrade Chris Isiguzo.

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was one of those who applauded the re-election of the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Chris Isiguzo.

In a statement by the commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, Governor Ganduje expressed confidence in his ability as re-elected president to take the practice of journalism to the next level.

He called on him to ensure that professionalism and high ethical standards are entrenched in the practice of journalism in the country, and tasked officers and members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to work with him to further develop the country.

Earlier, the Abia Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, in a release by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, expressed appreciation to the delegates of the NUJ for the confidence reposed on Chief Isiguzo who is an illustrious son of the state.

He applauded the orderly conduct of the triennial conference and equally expressed joy that journalists across the country came to the state for such an auspicious gathering which amongst other things availed them the opportunity to see that Abia is still one of the safest states in Nigeria as well as enjoy the hospitality of the people of the state.

He further pledged his administration’s continued partnership with the NUJ in particular and the media in general urged Comrade Isiguzo to leverage his wealth of experience to ensure that journalists in the country continue to raise the bar in their professional practice.

Similarly, the Niger State Governor of Niger State Governor Sani Bello, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mary Noel Berje, said the overwhelming reelection of Comrade Chris Isiguzo and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) is a reflection, satisfaction and approval of his leadership ability.

While applauding the hitch free conduct of the election, the Governor tasked Comrade Isiguzo and his team to relentlessly pursue their agenda of revamping the Journalism profession to its deserved pedestal in the country.

“I believe in the abilities of the NUJ President and his team to use their wealth of experience in addressing most of the challenges that affect the practice of journalism profession in the country, particularly the welfare of its members”, He further assured them of readiness to align with them to succeed.

In a press release, by the Arewa consultative Forum, (ACF) signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, the forum commended the success and peaceful conduct of the election NUJ ” The ACF is proud that despite initial setbacks, the conference and the election that followed it was reported to be peaceful.

” The NUJ has thus proved that while their members freely criticise the way we organise our elections and run our public affairs, they are willing to show us the best way to go.

” We call on the NUJ President who will be in office up to the time of general elections in 2023, to use whatever powers the office gives him to prevail on Nigerian Journalists to play a very positive role to ensure we have a peaceful election in 2023.

” As a non governmental organisation, we at the ACF have enjoyed the cooperation of Nigerian journalists and we hope that this cordial relationship will continue for the next three years as the re-elected Chris Isiguzu begins his second term” the statement added

On his part, while appreciating the success of the triennial conference, Veteran Journalist and Former NUJ President, Mr George Izobo charged Journalists to tolerate one another and show politicians that it is possible for them to work as one united country.

Izobo further hinted that the union will be 70 years old in Nigeria, next year; with a call on the new National leadership of the Union to work assiduously towards celebrating NUJ’s platinum Jubilee in 2022.
