NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja have been elected as National Chairman and National Secretary of the CE PDP respectively.

The election had over 3,000 State and national delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that gathered in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital for their National Convention.

Turaki’s emergence as National Chairman was made easy following the voluntary withdrawal of Senator Yakubu Lado, which led to him becoming the consensus candidate to lead the PDP into its next phase of resurgence.

These were contained in a post on its X handle @OfficialPDPNig on Sunday, stating that;“In a landmark moment for Nigeria’s opposition politics, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully concluded its Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, electing Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, as the new National Chairman, and Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, former Deputy National Chairman (South), as National Secretary.

The PDP stated that the convention was attended by over 3,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which marked a pivotal step toward party unity and renewal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A statement by the PDP stated that the proceedings at the venue of the National Convention which commenced on Saturday, November 15 and spanned into the early hours of Sunday, November 16, unfolded with remarkable efficiency and enthusiasm.

The statement said that Senator Ben Obi, who oversaw the electoral processes, guided delegates through a transparent voting mechanism that underscored the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles.

It further said; “Dr. Turaki’s emergence as National Chairman was near-unanimous, following the withdrawal of rival aspirant Senator Yakubu Lado, positioning him as the consensus candidate to lead the party into its next phase of resurgence”.

Meanwhile, the National Convention of the PDP which is the highest decision-making organ of the Party, announced the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, former ational Secretary of the Party – Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former governor of Ekiti State – Ayo Fayose and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

Others included, former National Vice Chairman of the PDP (South-south), Chief Dan Orbih, former National Organising Secretary – Hon. Umar Bature, former National Legal Adviser – Adeyemi Ajibade, Mr George Turner, Abraham Amah and Mohammed Abdulrahman.

Their expulsion was announced on Saturday at the venue of the PDP national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
