NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: The Katsina government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, while in Captivity of his abductors, describing the development as a tragic loss to the state and the country.
The government disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu, that the retired military officer died while in captivity despite efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release.
According to the statement, the late General died of natural causes resulting from complications associated with diabetes and hypertension.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity.
“Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement said.
The government described the deceased as a distinguished patriot whose abduction and subsequent death represent a monumental loss not only to his family and Katsina State but also to the entire country.
According to the commissioner, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep condolences to the family of the late retired General and Nigerians at large over the unfortunate incident.
The governor described the death as a dark moment and a stark reminder of the need for a united and intensified fight against criminal elements threatening peace and security in communities across the country.
“The incident is a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need for a collective and intensified front against the criminal elements threatening the peace of our communities,” the governor was quoted.
Radda reaffirmed the Katsina State Government’s commitment to continue working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to combat banditry and other forms of insecurity.
He also assured residents that efforts to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state would remain a top priority.
The governor further pledged that those responsible for the abduction and death of the retired military officer would be brought to justice.
The state government prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and urged citizens to remain united in the fight against insecurity.
