Trump Pledges $5,000 Dividend, If Party Retains Control In Midterm Elections

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA — US President Donald Trump has promised to pay a $5,000 “dividend” to every adult American if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Trump made the pledge on Wednesday while addressing the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas.

He said the proposed payment would be funded by the country’s economic strength and success under his administration, although he did not provide details on how the scheme would be financed.

“If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate… I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,” Trump said.

He added that recipients would be required to spend the money within the United States.

“The only caveat we have is that the dividend must be spent in the United States of America,” Trump said, warning Americans against spending the money in countries such as Canada, China or Germany.

The president did not explain how the government would monitor where recipients spend the money.

Trump had previously promised Americans $2,000 payments from tariff revenues, but the proposed payments have yet to materialize.

The latest pledge came as the two-day Republican gathering began, with Trump urging voters to treat the midterm elections as though he himself were on the ballot.

In a wide-ranging speech, the president highlighted several key issues of his second term, including immigration restrictions, the war in Iran, tariffs, economic retaliation, plans for a White House ballroom and restrictions on transgender people.

Other speakers at the convention focused largely on attacking Democrats, describing members of the party as “evil,” “communists” and “socialists.”

Among those who addressed the gathering was Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Trump ally facing a competitive Senate race against Democratic challenger James Talarico.

Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick was also introduced by Democratic Senator John Fetterman, who described McCormick as his “great friend” and pledged to work with Trump to protect the state’s steel industry.

Conservative activists also attended the event, including Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison over his role in the January 6, 2021, US Capitol riot before receiving clemency from Trump.

Trump also praised Erika Kirk, who attended the convention on the eve of the first anniversary of the killing of her husband, Charlie Kirk.

Vice President JD Vance also received a brief mention near the end of Trump’s speech.
