NEWSDAILYNIGERIA -As part of activities marking this year’s international Women’s day,the lnterfaith Forum of Muslim and Christian Women’s Association popularly known as the Women’s lnterfaith Council(WIC) has embarked on special solidarity prayers for Nigeria.

The celebration which held on tuesday in Kaduna, had the theme”Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 World”

The Forum’s annual interfaith solidarity Prayer and the international Women’s Day celebration featured various Women’s organizations across faiths and denominations on their kneels for peace, security and good governance in the state and country.

Speaking the Executive Director Rev.Sr.Veronica Onyeanisi,OLA said “We are gathered here today to celebrate the international Women’s day with our Annual solidarity Prayers, where Muslim and Christian Women come together to pray for our leaders, our state and to pray for our country Nigeria for peace, good governance and inclusive governance”

According to her, coming together is “deepening our relationship as Muslims and Christians” adding that, you hardly meet Christians and Muslims praying together ” but WIC has created that platform for Christian and Muslim Women to work together in peace building, issues that concern women and the development of our state and the country as a whole

” So we are gathered here to pray as Mothers of a Culture of Peace to beg God to have mercy on us, listen to our cry and restore peace, pointing out that, it is “only when there’s peace that there will be life and it is only when there’s life there will be development and we ask the good Lord to harken to our prayers and grant us peace” she added

Speaking further on the essence of the theme, which centred on Women in leadership also showed how the Covid-19 pandemic “has affected Women politically, socially, economically and otherwise we have educated Women also on how to take care of themselves, to go home and educate their children, educate their husbands, so that they will remain safe” she stressed

Similarly, Rev.Sr. Monica Onwunali,OLA,said ” we are here today as Women of faith, Muslim and Christian Women, to pray for our nation and to register our compassion, our passion for Nigeria, passion for love, passion for togetherness

“We have come to join our hands together to pray for security,to pray for good governance and we pray for Nigeria, so that we can come together and live in peace” with a call on Women to use their influence to continue to pray against inequality, while the government should do the needful to ensure security.

In the same vein, speaking on behalf of the Muslim Coordinator WIC,Hajia Aisha Mohammed Ibrahim, said the essence of the gathering is to celebrate the international Women’s day “As WIC,we are celebrating our own today, and we are celebrating all the Mothers today too

” the message is,we are in a difficult situation now and we are in constant prayers to see that there’s peace all over the world, because it is not only in Nigeria,so we pray for peace in Nigeria, we pray for peace in Kaduna state, we pray for peace in all the local governments in our state “She stated

On her part, the Christian Coordinator,Mrs Elizabeth Abuk, appreciated God for the double celebration and for seeing them through the scourge of the pandemic, saying ” that’s why we are praying, you could see us kneeling down and praying against those planning evil against in this country

“We are not finding it easy as Women that is why we are praying seriously, shedding our tears and calling our leaders to do something to end insecurity, we are at the receiving end;so what we are saying, we want an end to this, that’s what we want to tell the government”She added

Highlight of the event include free medical check up to the Christian and Muslim Women and other participants among other things.
