Gender Champion Calls For Women Involvement In Politics; Advocates Equal Society.

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA -Nigerian Female and Gender Champion Ms. Janet Ochanya Ejembi under the auspices of Odumehaje Christian Medical Misson, OCMM had embarked on an advocacy hike awareness to a school, church, and hospital in Benue State, Nigeria speaking up against gender based domestic violence to build the capacity of women in the area.

The advocacy provided a platform to carry out step down training to educate young ladies, women and students on the benefits of equal society, dangers of rape, community engagement/ services, and women invowblvement in politics.

The Gender Justice Advocate said, the move was part of efforts to celebrate the month of women as the world marked International Women’s Day and Mothering Sunday observed on the 8th and 14th March, 2021.

Inline with the theme of the International Women’s Day 2021, “Women in leadership; achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” Ms. Janet called on the United Nations to intensify support for women whom she said were at the front line in the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to her, helping women to be economically successful as well as discouraging forceful marriages and barbaric widow-hood practices will help to prevent Gender Based Violence in the society.

The UN Trained Leader and Gender Equality advocate who went round communities, schools, churches and hospitals sensitizing people on the dangers of rape, its risk factors and precautions, also encouraged women to participate actively in politics, noting that if fair access to opportunities are given them, their families, communities and countries will also develop.

“Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that is sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all. To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made”, she explained.

Miss. Janet Ejembi said rape and other Gender based domestic violence could be tackled via education, good parenting as well as adherence to family values including stringent penalty for perpetrators of the evil act.

The Women Gender Champion also organized a two-day free hair dressing outreach to celebrate women in Odumehaje community, Benue State, and taught students of secondary school, Aokpe about rape, where she also shared pens.

Beneficiaries were also women of the Charismatic Renewal Ministries, CRM, and Ojilima Hospital female staff, as women numbering up to 35 from the community benefitted from free plaiting as well as sensitization on GBV.

The benefiting women and students expressed gratitude to the Gender Justice Advocate and prayed God to enlarge her course for more impact.
