Senator Lauds NUJ Roundtable On Fake News

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA – The Senator representing Kaduna Central District in the National Assembly, Uba Sani, has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for organising the Roundtable meeting on fake news ,describing it as timely.

He believed that the discussion on fake news is timely and apt,hoping that solutions to mitigate it would be proffered by the cream of media stakeholders at the event among others

He however lamented the use of the social media platforms in misinforming the general public,thereby wrecking havoc on the unity of the country.

He said this at the Maiden Roundtable/Zonal Meeting organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists North-West Zone in collaboration with Kaduna State Council on Saturday

According to him, the gathering which had the theme: “Fake News, Governance and Society” was timely because the major problem in the country today is the issue of fake news.

Senator Sani hinted that at the National Assembly (NASS), there are two bills before the House of Representatives to checkmate the problem of fake news, as members believed it is very important,saying

“I have no doubt in my mind that events like this will certainly proffer solutions to this problems of fake news because the stakeholders are discussing it.

“It has created lots of problems in our society. I’m happy this event is held in Kaduna, and also that stakeholders came here with open minds.

“I have no doubt that at the end of the day they will come up with a position that will be beneficial to Nigerians,” he added

Senator Sani Uba, Adamu Marshal,publisher of Kabido Newspaper and others received the NUJ north west awards of excellence/ recognition at the event among other things.
