…..as KASTLEA Boss Blames About 80% Accident Rate On Drivers Negligence

The Newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Hajiya Asma’u Yawo Halilu has said that there must be a concerted synergy between the Union an Authority of the Kaduna State Traffic and Law Enforcemeint Agency ( KASTLEA) in order to curb the incessant traffic violations and crashes.

Comrade Asma’u who made the statement during a courtesy call to the Chairman, the Chief Executive of KASTLEA, Major Yahaya Rimi (rtd) said that there is a need ” for quarterly ” briefing on the actions of the authority with major stakeholders and media in order to sensitizge the populace on the activities of the authority .

She also called for concerted effort by both the Authority and Union to make Kaduna State a safe place for motorists to ply the roads.

Hajiya Asma’u also added that Journalists on special duties should be given a little leverage by the authority so that they can discharge their duties especially when they are on special duties.

Responding, Major Rimi said that the Authority and Union had an unbroken attachment as it can not function in isolation

He added that research had shown in the State that about 80% accidents which occur in the state are caused by drivers negligence rather than mechanical.

He said that his office and that of his lieutenants is opened to members of the Union as they try to discharge their duties especially in the prevention of accidents in the States’.

There were questions and answers by both members of the Union and authority on the way forward in the control and regulations of traffic in the State as well as ways of strengthening the already existing cordial relationship between both organs.

Comrade Hajiya Asma’u emerged as the Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of the NUJ after a rigorous contest as she promised amongst other things make the welfare and growth of the Council top in her list of priorities.
