NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: A Kaduna based NGO, Eye Opener Youth and Women Foundation has commenced sensitization of mothers, fathers and youths on the dangers of tobacco smoking ahead the WHO, World No Tobacco Day (WNTD).


Speaking to journalists shortly after the sensitization programme in Trikania community in Kaduna South LGA of the state, a women leader and member of the foundation Mrs Udeme Abraham said the awareness campaign against tobacco smoking among mothers, fathers and young people became necessary in view of its damaging effect on addictive and communities.

She said tobacco smoking has became a threat to lives in their community, adding that the foundation therefore decided to embarked on the awareness programmes to save some lives been threatened by its effects.

Mrs Abraham noted that the youths of today are unpredictable and into so many things including tobacco related issues and needed to catch them young using their mothers and fathers closeness and influence.


According to her, the only way to stop the threat among the young people is to catch their mother who’s close to the children and made them to realized the danger and negative effect of tobacco smoking in the society.

Mrs Abraham noted that from responses received, some parents especially mothers who promised to come back to her maybe having some challenges but shy of bringing it into the open, saying they’re out for prevention instead of cure relatively expensive.

While she advised the parents to not to attack the sensibility of the adductors, Mrs Abraham urged parents to bring them out saying hidden them could be more dangerous to the family and community.

Parents, including Mr. Isaac Obaka, Titus and one Miss N. Eje who spoke to our reporter thanked the foundation for creating that awareness, saying the knowledge of make friends and bringing tobacco addicts closer and showing them love would help in convinced them.

Some parents also narrated their ugly experiences on the disheartening behavior of tobacco smokers and addicts, who are I’m the habit of selling off properties and belongings to buy tobacco and its related drugs just to satisfaction their illicit habit.

Recalled that the foundation is the 2021 WHO WNTD award winner.
