NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: The Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC) Kaduna state council has strongly protested the continuous non- payment of entitlements of sacked Arewa textiles limited workers iin Kaduna.

Speaking the NLC Chairman, Kaduna state council, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, said, ” we are here this mornining at the gate of Arewa Textiles limited, to commomerate the International ‘Decent work Day’ and we choose to do one of what labour laws provided, that is piketting,

” we are here to piket this company ( Arewa Textiles) despite the fact that it has been closed down for over 20 years, that’s in 2002, but we felt because we have issues, we have a case with it and we decided to come and piket it

” Why we are here to piket this company is because our members from the Nigerian union of textiles , garment and tailoring workers have issues onbehalf of the former workers of Arewa textiles limited, they have a lingering issue of settlement of entitlements, since when the company was closed down in 2002,

” there’s a liability, terminal benefits and entitlements of our workers, our members, and members of the union that were not settled, so the union picked up and even went into the level of litigation and we have a judgment in favour of our workers,

According to him ” out of 640 million naira that is due for the entitlements of our workers the court agreed to let them have access of 250 million; we are ready to take that money, but up till now that I am talking to you, it has been almost 5 months now the bank who possess the factory, are yet to give us access to that money, so that these workers will be given their entitlements
