Speaking , the Executive Director, Kadashi Initiatives on Equity Health Empowerment and education, ( KIEHEE), Hon Amos Kadashi said , the essence of the awareness is” To educate the girls on depression, gender based violence against women and girl child, sexual molestation and sexual harassment, how to identify them and how to report and where to run to when you have such cases”

According to him, women are actually very vulnerable, “that is the main reason for this activism and women are the most people that suffer this kind of violence, that’s one of the reasons why the 16 days of activism was set aside” globally,

Kadashi said the foundation shared sanitary pads both disposable and reused pads, pant school bags, washing and toilet soaps, toothpastes, touch lights among others.

He further recounted how many adolescent girls and young people are passing through a lot of trauma because of sexual molestation. adding that the menace has worsened owing to the fact that some perpetrators include relatives and those in position of caring for young adults and children.

“So the sensitisation will help the girls to stand on their own, if they are faced with danger, while urging them to always speak out, only then, can they get the help neede

On her part, the Planned Parenthood Federatiin Of Nigeria,(PPFN,) Northwest, Region office, Amina Abdulrahim said the visit to the girls school is strategic

“We are here today at Queen Amina College in collaboration with Kadashi Initiatives to sensitise the students of the college because based on a study there are a lot of vulnerable students from the North East that are in the college”

She lamented the upsurge in sexual violence and other related abuses on the girl child but more worrisome is the failure to report such violations.

“So we want to encourage the girls to tell those close to them when they are faced with such harassment or violence.

“We equally want to equip them with information on how to be safe, how not to be raped and how to know if they are in an unhealthy environment or if they are in an unhealthy relationship.

“So that at the end of the sensitization, they will be able to know if they are with somebody that is not right,” she added

While appreciating the gesture, the Principal of Queen Amina College Hajiya Rakiya Ismail Ahmed applauded KIEHEE and PPFN, for the sensitization visit and assured them of their readiness to compliment their efforts and awareness.

Recall that, the 16 days activism starts from the 25th of November to end on the 10th of December annually.
