NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has decided not to use university lecturers as returning in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The commission however, has resolved to use their staff as returning officers in the elections sheduled from 25th February , 2023.

In a release on Thursday, by the
National Commissioner & Chairman
Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye Esq, INEC further announced the inauguration of the committee for National situation room and collation centre for the 2023 election.


” INEC decided that they will not use University Lecturers as returning officers for 2023 Election. INEC will use only their staff for the exercise.

“The Situation Room and Collation Centre Committee was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who charged it to commence work in earnest and to discharge its responsibilities diligently.” the statement added.

The statement however did not give reason for the change in the use of the university lecturers, but the action, may not be unconnected to outcomes of previous elections and the need to do things differently.
