NEWSDAILYNIGERIA- The Talitha Cum an lnternational organization against trafficking in human persons in conjunction with Society of Missions in Africa,SMA/OLA has embarked on taking the campaign against human trafficking to Queen Amina College,Kakuri,Kaduna.

The visit is part of activities to Mark this year’s international Day against Trafficking,create and sustain awareness in the students at this stage in their life on the dangers and evil of trafficking in human persons particularly the girl child and related vices,such as sexual slavery, harassment among others

Speaking, the coordinator, Talitha Cum international and SMA/OLA,in Kaduna State, Rev.Sr.Monica Onwunali,OLA,Said”We are here today to create awareness with the young people, actually,we say the youths are our target group, here today, we have students between ages 10-18, those are one of our target groups

“We want to tell them the evil associated with human trafficking happening in our society today., adding that, on the issue of the girl child and young ones” we are talking about child abuse, we are talking of sexual harassment and abuse of the young ones,

“we are talking about street vending/trading, we are talking about child labour and we are creating awareness with them, so that as we train them they Will train others “she stressed

Speaking further,”we also had a prayer session,but before the prayer session,in our cards,we have what we say” turn out the red lights,stop human trafficking” ,” we say trafficking in persons is a crime against humanity,

” we told the girls these are our commitment cards that we are jointly saying,” No to the evil of Human Trafficking”,because Pope Francis said, is a crime against humanity” she added

She noted that,as the World Celebrates the 7th international Day against trafficking, with the theme ‘Economy Without Human trafficking’ “we are encouraging the government to create jobs for the youths, pointing out that as we want to be great economy builders,” we should remember the poor,vulnerable amidst us”

According to her,Pope Francis’s message on this year’s theme centered on the need to create an economy that cares, loves and just, ” we ended with a prayer against trafficking with the picture of our patron,St Bahkitha,who was enslaved, trafficked, sold and resold and today she’s a Nun and a Saint in the Catholic Church ”

She reiterated the need for ” Parents to be very vigilant and don’t listen to those who build castle of jobs for your children; if you are able to stop child abuse,by stopping the children going to bad uncles,aunties and relations, we will curb the evil of Human trafficking ” she maintained

In the same vein, an SS3 student,Miss Dorcas Oyiaje,while expressing satisfaction with the awareness created on human trafficking by the visit ,said” I was impacted by the effect of human trafficking in our society and I also learned that Nigeria is one of the countries mostly involved in human trafficking”

She called on her fellow students and young ones,saying “we should not be easily deceived by people who come claiming to help us in all kinds of ways that’s looks promising, but it’s actually wrong, we should verify before we go looking for job,adding that,not all that glitters that is gold” she Stressed

Similarly,Miss Divine S.Bamaiyi,SS Science 2,said she has learnt the need for ” young girls to be careful of the friends, we keep and we should always stick to the advice of the elderly and we should always be careful of the people we keep around us”

While lamenting at the way and rate in which young girls are taken away from their loved ones for slavery, prostitution,she urged parents “to be aware of their children and never be ashamed to tell them the truth about their life and the way they should live their life in the community” she stated
