– Over 50 women trained as Peace Agents

– in collaboration with House of Reps, Assembly members

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA – The King Abdullah International centre for Interreligious and intercultural Dailogue( KAICIID) in collaboration with elected legislators of Chikun/Kajuru local government organized  a special workshop for Women on strengthening Peace through dialogue in their  local government areas.

The  event is a 2-day capacity Building workshop for women building blocks for peace an initaitive to promote Dailogue for women on peaceful coexistence in Chikun/Kajuru local governments areas of Kaduna state

The workshop which held on Friday- Saturday in Kaduna,had over 50 women participants from the Christian and Muslim faiths,trained to be advocates and true agents of Peaceful coexistence in their various communities.

A representative of Interfaith Mediation Centre Kaduna, Mr Samson Bala,disclosed that the KAICIID supported workshop was at the instance of the invaluable initiative by Imam Mohammed Sani lsa,who also doubles as the chief Imam of Waff Road, Mosque and Director intervention with IMC, couple with House of Representatives member and House of Assembly member as collaborators.

According to him,the two local governments were identified based on conflicts that have happened in the areas “which has to do with ethnic and religious conflicts, which has greatly  affected women and another part of it is the segregation that is increasing by the day,we need to break that circle”he said

He maintained the need for dialogue as the best option in resolving conflicts of this nature adding  ” we hope that these women even after the project they will be able to continue as a unit,both the Christian and Muslim women” from Chikun and kajuru local governments respectively.

He further said, if they really believed in the idea and objective to harness this peace and promote dialogue among themselves it will go a long way to bring about peace in our society and Kaduna as a whole and will continue to have space that creates opportunity for both christian and Muslim working together to promote peace in the state”

” we also hope that with this initiative,we’ll be able to expand to other areas periodically, working with both elected representatives, religious leaders, community leaders,women leaders” with the goal of promoting peace. He  also noted that though apolitical,they will work together with  policy makers to fashion the right policies for Women empowerment.

Similarly, the Member representing Chikun/Kajuru in the National Assembly, Hon Yakubu Barde,while commending KAICIID for the workshop initiative noted the importance of women in advancing peace in the home ,society, state and nation saying ” you know women are important in the society and charity begins at home “

According to him, all the issues bedeviling us as a people, ” moral decadence,insecurity, corruption their roots is in the family, adding that though Man is said to be the head, the woman remains the manager of the home, so if you build women’s capacity in terms of peace keeping, building blocks of peace, which is the essence of this seminar,you’re imbibing peace in the society “he added

While commending the outstanding creativity and presentation of organic Butter products by one of the participants, Mrs Veronica Turaki,,which attracted her monetary donations by the elected members to build her production capacity,also said ” I want to follow her up, I want to see a situation where she’ll also train others “

One of the Collaborators,Member representing, Chikun local government in the House of Assembly, Hon. Chawazah Ayuba Ishaku, said ” This is a very wonderful programme and it is timely ” 

Pointing out, that as the elected representatives of Chikun and Kajuru constituency ” it is our responsibility to go closer to the people especially women and children in our constituency to know what is happening to them,so that, in our own capacity provide solutions and while informing government the challenges women  are passing through in terms of Peace “he assured

According to him,women are the most vulnerable in crisis situations,owing to their weak nature ” anytime there’s crisis or lack of Peace in a given society, they seem to be more vulnerable “

Adding that the aim of the project is  to bring women together so that they can dialogue where there’re conflicts,in the homes, our communities and society at large,so that they can robe minds together, share ideas on how the can foster peace in our various communities and homes

” having proffered solutions by dailoguing between the women, there’s the need for economic activities to come in,we as the representatives will try our best to see how we can support these women be it individuals or organizations

” how we can empower them in our own little way and we’ll also go further to seek for some interventions by the government and also some NGO or philanthropists, who can come to their aid to assist, so they can have a source of livelihood to improve their condition of living ” he reiterated

While appreciating God for the donation by the Honourable members ,Mrs Veronica Turaki, manufacturer of Shear Butter Products prayed that He ” will take them higher and higher “, adding that her products are organic hence good for out health and beauty looks ” it can be used in cooking and frying at home “

She however faulted women staying idle and waiting on their husbands to always provide to rise above board saying ” I pity them,you have to rise and look for what you will eat,help to train your children, take care of your husbands,so that your home will be in order ” she stressed

One of the participants, Hajia Aisha Musa Zailani,from Sabon Gari Nassarawa,while describing the workshop said ” l am happy with the workshop, because it personally touched me and dear to my heart,especially, the issue of women’s rights, child abuse and the need to live in peace between Christians and Muslims “

On her part, Sis Monica Yakubu,from Trikania, Chikun local government, said the workshop is indeed an eye opener and its an upliftment to the women folk ” it created awareness to us to know what peace is all about and how to make peace within our communities, our homes,state and Nigeria at large’

” She said the take home from this workshop ” is peace ,what peace stands for,what peace is all about, what peace brings- it brings prosperity, it brings unity,to the women to embrace what we have learnt here in this two day workshop on peace ” she stressed
