NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: Following the outcome of the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party’s Congress in Kaduna state which saw the emergence of Hon. Edward Percy Masha as the winner of the chairmanship position, the leading opposition candidate and runner up, Comrade Danjuma Bello Sarki, alleged that the congress was a total rape on democracy as the constitution of the party as a whole, and due process not followed.

This was made known during a press conference organized by the Comrade, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Kaduna State Council, on Sunday.

Comrade Danjuma said he decided to address the press briefing to show his total dissatisfaction with the process that led to the emergence of Hon. Edward.

He said the electoral umpire did not stick to the provisions of the constitution and the guidelines that ought to had been the road map, hence, the reason for the faulty election outcome.

“I’m here today to express my sadness and grief over the charade of an election conducted by the Kaduna Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where due process was murdered for selfish interest as against the interest of the members of the party.”

“Obviously, what happened at the trade fair complex; the venue of the State Congress yesterday was nothing, but a fraud, and it was in contravention of the constitution and guidelines for the conduct of Ward, Local Government Areas, State, Zonal Congresses, and the National Convention of the Part”, he added.

The Comrade noted that he called for the briefing to make the public know the true state of everything that transpired.

He said that names of preferred candidates especially that of the chairmanship were already written at the back of the delegates tags, and threats were also used to force them (delegates) into voting those against their wishes.

As a result, he saw it as a total rape on democracy which made him to stage a walk away even before the election came to an end.

“It is very unfortunate, and without mincing words, I can categorically clear that what happened at the State Congress of the PDP in Kaduna yesterday was nothing but a rape on democracy, and an abuse of the constitution and guidelines for the conduct of the state congresses of the PDP by anti-democratic forces who are bent on keeping our part out of power, hence the reason for my walk out before the end of the voting exercise.”

Responding to question on would be his next line of action, the Comrade said since he was not the individual that single handedly nursed the aspiration, as it originated from well meaningful members of the party with burning desire for a new transformative PDP, they would sit down and discuss on what next to do.

Again, Com. Sarki responded to a question on whether the party has a brighter future forging ahead after what has happened, he responded pessimistically.

“There is a future for PDP but that future is bleak, that future is dark, that future is unpredictable, because if the future were bright, and the future can be said to be good, then I don’t think we would have had any reason to be here, to express our dissatisfaction and grievances.”

“And our being here, is like mandatory and compulsory, because if you don’t take this step, a lot of people would feel disappointed by us, because we need to put the record straight, we need to let people know what happened, and we need to let people understand that we genuinely love this party, and we did our best to rescue it from the cross of those who have been selling out the party.”
