NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: The Nigeria Union of Journalists, ( NUJ) Kano state council, has formally incorporated Online Media practitioners and inaugurated them as a chapel in the state.

A statement by the National Coordinator, Society for Patriotic Journalism, Comrade Abba Hamisu Sani, commending the state council for the ground breaking initiative, and urging others in the country to emulate, noted that the action is inline with the amended constitution of the NUJ, formally recognising online media practitioners as members.

” Today marks a historic moment for journalism in Kano as online media practitioners officially join the fold of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) with the inauguration of the Kano Online Media Chapel.

” My joy knows no bounds as I reflect on the long struggle we, the pioneers of online journalism, have endured to reach this milestone.

” Our dedication has paid with the creation and inauguration of our very own chapel today, Saturday, April 27, 2025, at the Kano Press Centre.”

According to him, “As a noble profession, journalism must evolve alongside advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

” It is a known fact that the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ recently amended its constitution to formally recognize online media practitioners, who now dominate all the social media platforms. Although in journalism we prefer to be called New Media.

” The leadership of the Kano State Council of the NUJ deserves commendation for this groundbreaking initiative. With the establishment of the Online Media Chapel, Kano sets a precedent for others to follow.

” Special appreciation must also go to Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, whose support and commitment were instrumental.
