Interfaith Forum Decries Spate Of Kidnapping In The Country

NEWSDAILYNIGERIA-The Interfaith Mediation Center Monthly Forum with the Media on peace Journalism has decried the rise and menace of kidnapping and general insecurity in the land.

The forum observed with displeasure the rate at which kidnapping,banditry and other forms of insecurity has led to migration and upsurge of IDPs from affected communities in the country.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting made available to newsmen in Kaduna.on Saturday,by the Co- Executive Directors of the Center, Imam Mohammed Nurayn Ashafa and Pastor Dr.James Wuye,the Forum further commended Shiekh Gumi’s efforts in trying to end Kidnapping and Banditry in the state.saying

” Participants at the Interfaith Mediation Center Monthly Forum with media on Peace Journalism have decried that kidnapping menace has increased in the month of January , saying this has led to massive migration of the affected communities within the period to other part of the country.”

The participants ” hailed the effort of a Kaduna state based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for taking the bold step to visit herders in their various communities to preach peaceful co-existence and appealed to other stakeholders in the country to emulate his giant stride.”

According to Forum,”traditional rulers should be more involved in peace building, as they have more command and control on their subjects in their domain.

The Forum further urged leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) especially Kaduna state council to continue to support issues of peaceful co-existence in the state and also call on the council to take the lead in promoting peaceful coexistence in the state in particular and the country as a whole.

The participants also noted that” lack of job opportunity in the country is not a yardstick for any citizen to indulge in criminal activities, pointing out that, instead people should have a mind set on genuine greener pasture so that to be self reliant.”

The participants also noted that as we mark the’ World Interfaith Harmony Week ‘which is been celebrated in every first of February

They appealed to Nigerians to shun any sentiment on government’s appointments, especially on security issues.

The communiqué further lamented over issuance of quit notices by some individuals and communities in the country, warning that that such action and issue can lead to instability in the country.
