NEWSDAILYNIGERIA– Cristiano Ronaldo again made history yesterday by becoming the all-time men’s leading international goal scorer; hence breaking the hearts of irish players and their supporters.
The Manchester United FC’s new signing powered home superb headers in the 89th and 96th minutes to beat Ali Daei’s 109-goal record and moved onto 111.
For 89 minutes, the irish team somehow defied logic to hold onto the lead given to them by John Egan’s header, leaving the Portuguese in a state of disappointment.
A missed penalty by the player, and scuffed with Dara O’shea that could, with anoder referee, have led to a red card further summed up his frustrations.
Portugal hammered at their opponent’s door, which was well marshalled by a young rookie goalkeeper, Gavin Bazunu who is on loan at Portsmouth from Manchester City.
But, in Ronaldo, Portugal -and now United- have a player who can turn a lost cause into a personal triumph, in the blink of an eye.
And in the 89th- minute Goncalo Guades’ cross was headed home by the veteran to break Daei’s record.
