NEWSDAILYNIGERIA: The Middle- Belt Forum,( MBF) has restated its position and support for power shift in the next presidential election in 2023, in interest of equity, fairness and justice.

MBF noted the need for an egalitarian country where every part of the country is ” to be elected president through a power shift arrangement” for sustainable unity.

The Forum stated this tuesday through a statement by its National President, Dr Bitrus Pogu, in reaction to recent presidential endorsements of two of her prominent sons, ex- SGF Lawal Babachir and ex- speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Recall that, the duo made their separate endorsements after falling out of their party the APC over the Muslim- Muslim impasse. While ex – SGF Babachir endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party for Presdent, Yakubu Dogara declared his support for Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Pogu said, “I wish ex Speaker Yakubu Dogara and his new found presidential calculation the very best.

” One would have expected that after the hues he went through in the ruling APC, Dogara’s preference of his name and personal political interest against that of his people would have given way in a much better people driven position.

“Maybe, his sole calculation was that Atiku will win Tinubu and Obi and his appointment guaranteed ” he added.

According to him, ” He wants to belong even if it is going to be against the overall interest of his own people but when the dice is cast, he will realize how important the power of the people is compared to that of personal interest.

“On Engr Babachir Lawal, the ex SGF must have realized that his people’s interest be put first before any personal ambition. 

“MBF president further said,  “At the level of the Middle Belt, we are sending out a strong voice into the political space. 

“That our agitation for an egalitariant Nigeria where every segment is equally important to be elected president through a power shift arrangement guarantees the unity of the federation is sustainable.

” The power of the people which Babachir chooses above his personal interest shall vindicate the Middle Belt struggle which is anchor on Equity, Fairness and Justice.This is the position of the Middle Belt,” the statement added

It would be recalled that the Middle- Belt Forum had earlier endorsed Labour Party’s Peter Obi, for the presidential election in 2023, inline with its power shift posture.
